  • Are you wondering how you pack your boxes? Packing in boxes can be challenging, but the professional movers at All My Sons Kansas City are here to make it easier for you! Follow along and you will know the best way to go about packing in boxes.

    Small Boxes

The general rule for small boxes is: the smaller the box, the heavier you can pack it. They should be reserved for fragile, small and heavier items. Large boxes don’t hold heavy items quite well, because they can’t be easily lifted and they can fall over. Some items to include in your small boxes are: canned goods, CDs and DVDs, books, small electronics and small fragile items.

    Medium Boxes

The bulky or awkward items should be packed in medium sized packing products. You can typically get 1 to 3 items in a box at a time. You can put: kitchenware, pots and pans, small appliances, clothing, shoes, lamp shades in this sized box.

    Large Boxes

These boxes should be filled with the light items. Put linens, pillows, blankets, medium sized appliances and other large household items in the large boxes. Feel free to stuff this box full, but not to the point that it’s too heavy to lift. Don’t forget to put the heavier items towards the bottom, so that the box doesn’t tip over in the back of the truck.

A general tip for packing in boxes: if there is any empty space in the boxes once everything is packed, fill the empty space with packing products to keep things from moving around.

Your flat screen television is a delicate and expensive item that requires proper packing to ensure its safety during transportation. Follow these tips from the Maryland movers at All My Sons for the best way to pack your flat screen TV to avoid any damage.

The best packing products to use for your flat screen TV are the original packaging. If you don’t have the original box or protective padding that was inside, don’t worry.

If you don’t have the original protective padding, you should wrap your flat screen TV using packing blankets or foam. You can also wrap the screen in bubble wrap for added protection, if you choose. Secure the wrapping with packing tape to keep it from shifting during moving. You should also tape any cords to the back of the TV to keep them from getting tangled.

If you no longer have the original box, you can purchase the correct sized packing products from your local Maryland moving company. Once you have the correct sized box, you should slide the TV inside. Make sure there is no empty space for the TV to rattle around. If you have any empty space, you should consider adding some packing paper to fill it. The box should be securely taped and you should reinforce the bottom to keep the TV from falling through.

Last but not least, clearly label the box “Fragile” and “This Side Up” on every side of the box. If you follow these tips to safely pack your flat screen TV, you should have no problems during your move!

When deciding between professional packing and DIY packing services, there are a few things you must consider. If you have the extra cash and very little time, you should definitely hire professional packers in South San Antonio. If you are on a tight budget, want to be in control of the situation and have the time, you should consider DIY packing.

    Professional Packing Services

The professional movers at All My Sons South San Antonio can pack up your home in just a few hours to a day. Our team has been trained in procedures and methods to efficiently and effectively pack your belongings. We know how to properly pack your most valuable, breakable and odd-shaped belongings. Included in our professional packing services are quality packing products. You can have peace of mind knowing that your things are less likely to be broken or damaged while in transit. Included in our packing services is the assembly and disassembly of furniture, so there is no heavy lifting for you. Investing in packing services also gives you the opportunity to keep your belongings in South San Antonio storage, should you need it.

    DIY Packing Services

The biggest advantage to passing on packing services is the lower cost. If you are trying to budget or would just rather not splurge on packing services, you can definitely do it yourself. You have more control when you do it yourself, since you don’t have to worry about strangers handling your belongings. However, DIY packing can be very time-consuming and you may not pack your things correctly. There is more room for damage if you don’t know how to properly pack your stuff. Should there be any damage, you are held responsible for it because movers are not liable for boxes that they didn’t pack.

Have a Summer Yard Sale in Birmingham

Moving presents a great opportunity to have a summer yard sale in Birmingham! It’s the perfect opportunity to declutter, and now that you have an abundance of stuff, you should use it to your advantage and make a few bucks by having a yard sale. Our Birmingham packing company at All My Sons Moving & Storage has tips for hosting a successful yard sale.

The first step to having a summer yard sale is to pick a date. Most people go with Saturday and Sunday mornings, and you’ll get a larger crowd if you start early because people won’t have to interrupt their day to attend your yard sale.

After you’ve decided on a date, create a newspaper ad, make some signs and post on social media. You want to generate as much traffic as possible if you want to make some money and get rid of your stuff.

On the day of your yard sale, our Birmingham packing company recommends having change already set aside. Make sure you have fives, ones and quarters. Make sure you sort all your things before you price them. It makes it easier for your potential buyers and helps to keep your garage sale organized.

If you have young kids, let them help by having a lemonade stand. They will feel like they are involved and helping, and it also keeps them busy while you are making sales. It’s a fun “entrepreneurial” experience for them! Your customers will be hot and thirsty, so why not have some lemonade available for them?

Moving parents to a senior living facility sometimes isn’t as easy as we’d like it to be. There’s a lot that goes into making the new environment feel like home, and the moving professionals in Raleigh at All My Sons Moving & Storage want it to be a seamless process.

Establishing a familiar environment for your parents is important for nostalgia purposes. While you might want to pack everything that is sentimental to them, you must keep in mind that your parents will most likely be moving to a much smaller location. In order to recreate their living space, do your best to choose beloved pictures, décor and books that mean a lot to them. You know your loved ones better than anyone else, so it’s important to identify what’s truly important to them and pack those items.

Once you decide what you are going to pack for your parents, you should make sure that you have appropriate packing supplies. Most memorable or valuable things are fragile, so you want to make sure you are packing everything securely. The easiest things to make for a familiar environment are: pictures and keepsakes. It’s important to properly pack fragile items with packing paper and bubble wrap. Once you wrap everything up securely, you should put their belongings in cardboard boxes and ensure that any empty space is filled with packing paper. You don’t want anything moving around and run the risk of damaging any of their belongings.

A basic tool kit is something that every home should have. You don’t need to go out and purchase an expensive tool kit all at once. The best way to set up a basic home tool kit is to acquire tools as you need them. Moving companies in Tulsa recommend investing in well-made tools that will last a lifetime.

First things first, you should start with the actual toolbox. Two factors you must consider when choosing a toolbox are: sturdiness and capacity. You should also look for a toolbox with compartments to keep tools and accessories organized.

Every basic home tool kit requires a good (preferably claw) hammer. Ask any experienced profession from the moving companies in Tulsa and they will tell you that this kind of hammer is the most versatile since it can be used for driving in nails and pulling them out.

An adjustable wrench is suited for many tasks, since its jaw can be adjusted to fit hardware of many sizes.

There are two types of pliers that you should have: locking and combination. The locking pliers have size-adjustable jaws for nuts and bolts and the combination pliers can be used with nails.

You want to have flat and cross-headed screwdrivers in your tool kit, along with a variety of hardware.

Lastly, don’t forget to have a level. A level will help with keeping photos, artwork and electronics straight when you are hanging them.

Moving is stressful and you don’t want to add any stress to your move by putting stuff in the moving truck that isn’t supposed to go in there. The Columbus packers and movers at All My Sons Moving & Storage have created this guide on what to pack in the moving truck, just for you!

    What to Pack

You can pretty much pack all of your furniture, appliances, clothing and household items in the moving truck for your move to Columbus.

    What Not to Pack

    Photo Albums

These albums contain some of your most important memories and the last thing you want to happen is for these to get lost or damaged in the moving truck. If you’re moving during the summer you can also run the risk of them being damaged by the heat. To avoid any lost memories, keep these in the car with you!

    Anything Flammable

To avoid fires during the moving process, our moving trucks will not carry alcohol, nail polish remover or lighter fluid. You should check all of your belongings for labels that say “keep away from open flame” and either dispose of them before moving, or keep them in your car.

    Prescription Medicine

Any and all important prescription medications should be kept with you in a safe location. You don’t want to be without anything important in an emergency situation.

    Perishable Foods

This seems pretty obvious, but sometimes people forget and pack any leftover food items. Packing food items can lead to messy spills and leaks and no one is going to want to clean up any messes in the back of a moving truck.

    Fertilizers and Pesticides

Columbus packers and movers highly suggest keeping fertilizers and pesticides away from the moving truck. They are poisonous and if they are packed in the back of the moving truck, that can lead to accidental spills. If these things spill onto your belongings, you will have to throw them out, so do your best to keep them separate from all of your other stuff.

    Important Paperwork

Keep your passports, IDs, insurance and tax info in your car. These documents are documents you really can’t afford to lose or replace.

The All My Sons Sarasota moving company has some simple guidelines to get your home packed for summer moving. If you follow these 5 easy tips, you will get your home packed in no time!

    1. Put heavier items on the bottoms of boxes, and the lighter items on top. If the bottom of the box is heavier, there is less of a chance that it falls over. The same goes for loading the truck. Pack heavier boxes first or toward the front of the truck for balance.
    1. Don’t leave any empty space in the boxes. You should fill in gaps with packing paper, clothing or towels to keep your belongings from moving.
    1. The moving and packing experts from the All My Sons Sarasota moving company recommend that you avoid mixing items from different boxes in the same box. Your packing and unpacking process will be so much easier if you pack room by room!
    1. You should label each box with the room it belongs in and a brief description of its contents. This helps you know exactly where every box belongs in your new house. You should also keep a small inventory in a notebook so you know what you’ve packed, and to make sure you still have everything when you unpack.
    1. The best way to pack your breakables is to bundle them. Individually wrap your fragile items with packing paper, and then wrap bundles of five or six together with more paper. You should also use plenty of packing paper as padding above and below.

All My Sons moving company Salt Lake City has tips to keep your grill from rusting this summer.

The best way to keep your grill from rusting is by spraying your burners with a thin layer of vegetable oil and turning the heat on low for about ten minutes. By repeatedly coating the grill with oil and cooking the oil, you are putting a safe and durable coating on the metal to shield it from rust and moisture. Repeated applications of this process build a strong barrier to rust. You can also do this when you are done cooking food on the grill. Turn the fire off, brush away the food debris and spray or wipe the grates with vegetable oil.

Another way to protect your grill from rust is by purchasing a cover. The cover will protect your grill from excessive moisture, but sometimes rain will still find a way into your grill. Usually, it collects in the drip tray under control panel. To keep your grill from silently rusting away, All My Sons moving company Salt Lake City recommends checking the drip tray every week, and especially after the rain, because the collected water is like a lake under your grill.

Now that we’ve taught you some tips on how to keep your grill from rusting, we’re going to tell you what NOT to do, to keep your grill from rusting. Don’t pour sauces on your meat while they are on the grill, don’t turn the flames on high to “burn off” food and never power wash the inside of your grill.

    Deducting Moving Expenses

Did you know that if you move, you might be eligible to deduct your moving expenses? The Fort Lauderdale movers at All My Sons Moving & Storage are going to tell you how you can deduct moving expenses. Read on to find out how!

To be able to write off your relocation costs, there are three requirements you must meet. Your move must be job-related and you must pass two tests- time and distance. To meet the distance test, the distance from your old house to your new workplace must be at least 50 miles farther from your previous residence and your last workplace. To meet the time test, you must work in your new area for at least 39 weeks during the first year after you arrive in that new area. Your moving expenses must be incurred within one year of starting at your new job to be deductible.

According to the Fort Lauderdale movers, generally, you can deduct moving expenses when you move yourself, your family and all your belongings. The cost of DIY moving trucks, gas, packing supplies, moving insurance, travel expenses and storage for up to 30 days after your stuff is moved can all be deductions on your tax return. Even though travel expenses will count as deductions, any cost of meals will not be deducted. Other things that won’t be deducted are: expenses of buying or renting a home at your new location and any expenses for which your employer reimburses you.

When you file your tax return, you do not have to itemize your deductions to claim moving expenses. Moving expenses do not count as an itemized deduction because they are an adjustment to your income. They also reduce your adjusted gross income, so moving expenses might help qualify for other tax benefits that are limited at higher income levels.
