  • If you plan on moving to Oklahoma City this summer, you better get ready to spend a lot of time outdoors! Even if you are not an avid outdoorsman, chances are, you will want to spend as much time on a bike as possible once you move to Oklahoma City. This month, at the inaugural bike ride and family festival, the new West River Trail is scheduled to be opened to the local community.

Connecting Lake Overholser to the south bank of the Oklahoma River, the new 7.5 mile trail is just one out of three that will be opening in Oklahoma City in the next coming years. Local bike riders are thrilled to have the new trail, especially members of the Oklahoma Bicycle Society, and Oklahoma City movers are excited to see what it will mean for not only current, but future residents.

President of the bicycle society, Bill Elliot, expressed that he’s, “really excited about the prospects of having a new trail. The benefit is now we can connect the Oklahoma River Trail to Overholser, which connects to Hefner, and all of a sudden we’ve opened up an expansive network of trails for cyclists of all abilities.”

Part of the allure of adding bike trails that rival those of Tulsa’s, is due to the potential for it to make the Oklahoma City community more active as a whole.

Project manager of the new bike trails, David Todd, further supports this notion by stating that, “it promotes healthy lifestyles and a way to get outdoors and have some fun in a safe way. We think it will be very well used. We’ve already had a lot of interest in it and it hasn’t even opened.” The Oklahoma Bicycle Society will be leading the first ride on the trail and inviting anyone who is interested to join them on one of their 500 rides they do per year. If you are moving to Oklahoma City, take a break from moving and partake in the first bicycle ride on the West River Trail.

Founder of Milwaukee’s spy-themed restaurant, Safe House, Dave Baldwin, has just begun the start of his retirement; but, you won’t see him at home resting. In his first day of retirement, you could find him with his wife, Shauna Singh Baldwin, hanging out at his restaurant at a high-top, right next to the front of the door.

After 50 years of serving the Milwaukee community drinks and meals in a restaurant reminiscent of the Cold War, Baldwin has finally given up his title of “station chief.” As co-owner of the venue with his wife, they lamented how they wish and hope that little to no changes are made to the establishment, and Milwaukee movers and locals alike, agree.

Shauna expressed that, “we’re very happy this has happened. We’re very hopeful they’ll carry the tradition forward. David has put 6 to 7 million people through that door.”

Safe House itself is a tribute to the 1960’s and Hollywood’s preoccupation with the spy craft – especially seeing as how the 007 James Bond movies were so popular. Located off of an alley on E. Wells Street, the Safe House has a secret doorway, a password to get in, and a booth that spins around – revealing a secret entrance. Once inside, guests encounter the restaurant’s interconnected rooms and hallways that have autographs of influential people and journalists that have come to Milwaukee over the past 100 years.

Throughout his years at the Safe House, Baldwin had numerous celebrities stop in. However, one of the most notable remains none other than Charlie Sheen. After all, not only did he stop by, but also shot a scene from the film “Major League” there. It is safe to say that everyone in Milwaukee loves the Safe House, and if you are moving to Milwaukee this month, you should check out this timeless local treasure before it changes.

Downtown Memphis can get ready for a long overdue face lift. The sought-after architectural designer Christopher Speltz has taken on the revamping project and Memphis movers are excited to see what this will mean for current and future residents of the city.

According to Speltz, “we’re taking these buildings that were kind of left for dead. When I started designing 266, it kind of dawned on me that this is a city block. This isn’t a building Downtown that’s 40 feet wide by two stories. This is from Dr. M.L. King Jr. Avenue to Pontotoc Avenue to South Front, and the scale is just really big.”

He further expressed that he has thought the downtown area of Memphis has needed an update for quite some time. His vision includes making the area a hub of activity for the young and ‘hip’ community of Memphis, perhaps making it attractive for millennials to move to Memphis.

Speltz further elaborates on his renovating plan by sharing that, “you start taking old parking lots and turning them into these really cool buildings and things like that, and that creates a threshold from the next street to the next street to the next. I love that, and I hope all the other architects are doing the exact same thing.”

However, this is not the first time that he has created plans like this for Memphis. Having been born and raised in Memphis, Speltz drew a lot of inspiration from the city he grew up in, when attending the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture over 25 years ago. As a graduate student, his graduate project focused on revitalizing downtown Memphis. Despite his professors disagreeing that the project could be done, Speltz says that he wants to call those same professors today and tell them that, “not only did I try to design it, I’m kind of living it.”

Your local Knoxville movers are excited to share that Bonnaroo continues in its tradition of bringing in music fans from all over the nation, for the fourteenth year in a row this June.

Originally starting in 2002 and taking place on a sprawling 700 acre farm, thousands upon thousands make the annual pilgrimage to see their favorite artists fill up the festival’s many stages. Some concert-goers braved flat tires, while others waited in lines that lasted longer than five hours. But, one thing remains constant – the dedication of going to the festival.

Most attendees opt to camp at the event, which leads to many of them creating new friends and bonding with their new weekend festival families; a great way to meet new people and take a break from moving if you are moving to Knoxville.

According to one Bonnaroo visitor, “when you park, you have to throw your stuff out on the ground and spread out as fast as you can.”

This year, the festival will have a “silent disco,” where everyone goes to a silent tent with a DJ and wears headphones in order to jam out to the music.

Bonnaroo veteran Diomande Pandis, described the experience as, “everybody dancing, but if you walk by and you’re not in it, you don’t hear a thing. You just see everyone rocking out. It’s so fun…I usually do it at like 5 a.m.”

While Mumford and Sons, and Florence and the Machine seem to be one of the most talked about performers, other acts this year include: Kendrick Lamar, Alabama Shakes, Earth Wind and Fire and Tove Lo. Local movers, locals, and new residents share the same level of excitement for the annual Tennessee event – so if you are moving to Knoxville, don’t miss Bonnaroo!

This past week, the Kansas Governor, Sam Brownback, signed and passed a bill that gives the Secretary of State Kris Kobach the power to seek out those involved in potential voter fraud. Moving to Kansas? You can be sure that your Presidential election votes will be safeguarded against voter fraud attempts with Kobach in charge of the issue.

Perhaps, no one more than Kobach is more excited over the recent passing of the Bill, especially since he has advocated for years that voter fraud is rampant throughout the state of Kansas, despite the lack of factual information regarding the subject.

In fact, earlier this year, the Associated Press revealed that Kobach had never sent any cases of alleged voter fraud for further investigation by the Kansas attorney general, despite him previously proclaiming that he had.

In order to prosecute those suspected of participating in voter fraud, Kobach will need to provide hard evidence pointing towards the indiscretion. This will prove hard for him to do, especially since much of the “voter fraud” turns out to be a technological error or the result of confusion by the voter.

Kobach has announced that he will have about three people working part-time on the new project. One question still remains to be answered: exactly how much of the taxpayer’s money is going towards this new endeavor. While your local Kansas City movers and the rest of the community will have to wait to find out the answer to that questions– that does not mean that Kobach will not use his new found influence to take control of the alleged “voter fraud” that has been running rampant throughout the state of Kansas.

Those of you planning on moving to Jacksonville, who have preexisting health conditions, BEWARE! Orange Park Medical Center in Jacksonville was recently named one of the most expensive hospitals in the nation, according to the Journal of Health Affairs. The Jacksonville hospital had the fourth highest mark-up over cost of services among the 20 Florida hospitals on the list, and was ranked 8th out of the 50 hospitals in the United States that charge the most for being treated there.

The medical center showed a 1,140 mark-up, which equals out to them charging $1,140 for every $100 in cost. This comes as no surprise in the wake of the 2014 report that revealed that Orange Park Medical Center was the most expensive hospital in the state of Florida, with the same mark-up percentage.

Not only that, but Florida came in second in the country for hospitals with the highest prices, which was based off of Medicare cost reports for the 2011-2012 fiscal year. In the wake of the recent news, Orange Park Medical Center has released a statement stating that the amount that each individual patient pays, varies on the different types of coverage that they have.

The medical center also went on the record stating that it offers little to no-cost care for those with no insurance coverage options. However, in 1997, when Governor Rick Scott was CEO of Columbia/HCA, the company was also accused of fraudulent Medicare billing that exceeded hundreds of millions of dollars. As a result, Scott resigned and Columbia/HCA agreed to pay the federal government over $600 million.

Looks as if the Jacksonville medical center will continue to have similar problems that they once faced back in 1997.

While the City Council may have agreed to expand the local junkyard, others may not be on board with the decision, according to the local Fort Myers community.

However, the council stands firm by their decision to increase Garden Street Iron & Metal, with Mayor Randy Henderson backing them up stating that “I believe that our charge is to emerge out of the process that supports an improved city. I’m hoping this will be a launch pad to make the city more beautiful.”

The decision to expand the Fort Myers junkyard did not come without much debate and consideration, as the council carefully listened to the proposition which included over 10 hours of outlined plans regarding the site specifically, goals towards developing the area as well as why expanding the 18-acre site is a good idea for the rest of the community.

The council also took into account the potential negative side effects of enacting an expansion, but all in all the council voted 5-2 to expand Garden Street Iron & Metal. The thought process behind the decision is that, holding the site to higher standards will force other Fort Myers junkyards to either step up their game or to shut down. Local Fort Mye

While the City Council may have agreed to expand the local junkyard, others may not be on board with the decision, according to the local Fort Myers community.

rs automobile movers believe that the increased space will allow for the removal and disposal of junk cars left throughout city – the disposal of these cars is suggested to reduce vandalism and other malicious crimes.

Attorney Steve Hartsell argues that “you ought to be embracing this (expansion proposal), it will put (junkyards like Alligator Towing) out of business and set the standard for the rest of the city.” From the looks of the outcome of the debate from the city’s officials, the City Council agrees that this is a good thing as well.

East Tulsa is a lovely place to call home, but it has not had much retail development in the past thirty years. Sure, a store or two will pop up from time to time, but retail development has not kept up with residential development and our town’s population increase. But your Tulsa moving company recently learned that a large developer, Horizon Group Properties, proposed plans for a huge shopping outlet in East Tulsa. Woo hoo! The proposed name for the center is the Outlet Shoppes at Tulsa.

The proposal detailed a 400,000-square-foot, 95 store retail outlet that could potentially be ready by 2017. The retail outlet would bring in plenty of big-named stores, more eating options, and even additional offices and hotels. It would also create about 1,200 permanent jobs; which is great for the residents of East Tulsa. Horizon often partners with big brands and stores like: Coach, Ralph Lauren, and Michael Kors. The development company’s plans also include a summer concert series and a farmers market.

The proposed lot is at 129th East Avenue, at Interstate 44. The lot is thought to be perfect for such an outlet mall. It is right next to the highway and exit, and the land is solid for building. Because of this, other developers are also making proposals for an outlet mall.

If you are moving to Tulsa, you should definitely keep up with the development of this potential retail outlet; it will bring convenience and entertainment to your new home town!

If you are moving to Atlanta this month, Atlanta moving companies urge you to keep an extra watch out for deputies and do not use the emergency lane for passing during traffic!

In the afternoon, the Georgia 400 can be a nightmare during rush hour, causing a lot of drivers to use the emergency lane to pass other drivers who may be holding them up. However, these passing drivers are in for a rude awakening, since local deputies are now warning that they will be cracking down on tickets for anyone who is caught illegally using the emergency lane.

According to local resident Whitney Gardner, the traffic typically starts near exit 12 at McFarland Parkway and, “People are stuck for hours on that exit.”

For drivers who are desperately trying to get around slow traffic, the shoulder is their only escape, and the recent announcement from the sheriff’s office is frustrating.

“So it backs up, backs up and stays backed up. So I understand why they do it,” Gardner said.

But here’s where the main confusion comes in: the shoulder is actually legal for passing during the morning and afternoon rush hours, just south of the exit. Therefore, drivers are asking that local authorities make it legal for the entire strip.

“It did wonders for Windward Parkway in the mornings, so can’t imagine it wouldn’t help get people getting off here anyway; get them out of the way so other people can go on,” said one driver.

When Ohio U.S. Representative Joyce Beatty was 50, she had a stroke and she was able to make a full recovery. Ever since, she has been an advocate for creating awareness for stroke victims. If things go her way, the month of May will soon become Stoke Awareness Month.

Earlier this month, Beatty introduced a bill to designate May as Stroke Awareness Month, with Representative Pat Tiberi co-sponsoring the bill.

Beatty explains how she, “as a stroke survivor, I understand the magnitude of this disease and its often-life-changing effects.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control, one person in the world dies from stroke every four minutes, and one person every 40 seconds in the United States. Strokes claim roughly 130,000 Americans each year, making strokes the fifth leading cause of death in the United States.

Of course, The National Stroke Association and The American Heart Association / American Stroke Association back Beatty’s efforts and bill, as well as a bipartisan coalition of 16 Members of Congress. Columbus movers hope that our state representative’s bill gets passed and that stroke victims can gain more awareness and spread knowledge throughout the month of May.
