  • Nearby conveniences like transit, restaurants, and shopping are big draws for many people when deciding where to move. Because we know this is true, your Salt Lake City packing and moving company was excited to learn about the new plans for Station Center. What is Station Center, you may ask? According to Jason Mathis, executive director of Salt Lake City’s Downtown Alliance, it is a “big deal.”

Salt Lake City planners are mapping out a mixed-use urban area for Station Center. It will include: retail stores, restaurants, bars, apartments, and commercial buildings. It is also very close to Salt Lake Central Station, which is a big draw. The downtown area is in the Depot District, and consists of the two city blocks between 200 South and 400 South, from 500 West to 600 West.

The huge project will need some private investors, so the Salt Lake City’s Redevelopment Agency is courting prominent financiers. One drawback is the area’s homeless population and the homeless services in the neighborhood, but most private investors are not deterred, as the proximity to the transit hub is very appealing. The project is in the developmental stages, so completion is not expected for three to six years. Either way, everyone is excited about the buzz!

Station Center is another sign of the city’s continued growth. If you are moving to Salt Lake City, be sure to keep an eye on Station Center’s development. Once completed, it is sure to be a wonderful place to grab dinner, go shopping, and explore.

In a bold move by the Colorado State Senate, a bill was passed reducing the amount of time that homeowners have to take legal action against defective work done by home builders. Senate Bill 91 barely passed, with an 18-17 vote; but it has passed, and it reduces the amount of time homeowners can act against faulty work. Reducing the limit from six to five years.

The bill was initially proposed in order to counteract the effects of Colorado’s construction-defects statutes, which has ended up severely slowing down construction of condominiums within the area. With Senate Bill 91, issues such as faulty foundations, leaky windows, and cracked walls all can be filed in a claim against the builder within a five year time frame. However, if there is an inadequacy found in the home within the fifth year, then the owners of the home are allowed an additional year to file.

Despite the fact that the bill may not seem like a major change, there are many homeowners that find issues with the clauses of the bill.

According to Senator Matt Jones, “this is about regular Coloradans being able to live in a mistake-free house. This makes it harder for regular people to fix their homes, and that’s just not right.” The people who plan on packing and moving to Colorado somewhere in the near future are unfortunately the ones who will be most affected.

On the other hand, while Senator Ray Scott still finds issues with the bill, his main concern is regarding the builders. He states that, “builders are being put under pressure to resolve problems that are not necessarily problems of their doing.”

Don’t live in Georgia? That’s okay, you can still win the GA lotto…apparently.

An Alabama man recently purchased a $5 Georgia lottery instant ticket at a Marietta gas station. Little did he know that he would get lucky with his scratch-off.

Matthew Spraggins, from Phoenix City, Alabama, bought his scratch-off at a Chevron station in Marietta and went back home to Alabama $450,000 richer.

But Spraggins was not the only one to get lucky with the lotto in Georgia last month. Atlanta entrepreneur Michael Rutledge, also won $450,000 by playing the Georgia Lottery’s KENO game, which he bought at a Kroger in Atlanta. Rutledge explained that he used a personal combination of numbers and purchased a nine spot for 10 consecutive draws, selecting the multiplier option to increase his chances.

If you are moving to Atlanta this month, you could get lucky with the lotto too. Check out the Smoke Rise Chevron at 288 Powers Ferry Road, in Marietta, or the Atlanta Kroger off Peachtree Road S.E. like Spraggins and Rutledge did.

Atlanta movers want new residents to be winners, and for a small price, you could win big! Even if you are not moving to Georgia and are just passing through, a simple trip to the gas station could prove a trip worthwhile.

Naples movers want you to know that if you are looking to move to the Southwest region of Florida, Naples real estate is hot and selling fast! Nationally, the economy is doing well, and it can be shown through the rise in real estate. Florida is a prime location for real estate and low mortgage rates right now, but Naples real estate is sizzling!

The 2015 Annual Naples Area Board of Realtors (NABOR) Economic Summit was held at the Naples Grande Beach Resort earlier this month; where the committee reviews the state of the local housing market and how it is impacted by global, state, and regional influences. Over 400 were in attendance this year and, according to Vice President and Manager of the residential division of Naples-based Carroll and Carroll Real Estate Appraisers and Consultants Cindy Carroll, the summit revealed a stabilization of the real estate market across the board in Naples; even surpassing peak 2005 levels.

“Neighborhoods broken down by ZIP codes seem to make a lot more sense than when it’s broken down by price range,” she said. “It’s about location, not price range, it’s how close you are to the beach, which drives your value.”

Carrolls further went on to mention that condos have not had as much of a jump as single-family homes.

John Tuccillo, the chief economist at Florida Realtors and the former chief economist at the National Association of Realtors explained that, “There is a very close correlation, between million-dollar-plus home sales in Florida and the Dow (Dow Jones Industrial Average), so it’s kind of an indicator or where home sales are going to do. In addition, transportation and infrastructure investments in Southwest Florida could help spur economic development, leading to a stronger local economy and higher home sale prices”, Tuccillo said.

So if your family is looking to move to Naples, now is the perfect time to do so, and jump on the houses quick because they are selling exceptionally fast!

If you are a parent living in Tulsa, you have probably been to the Tulsa Zoo or are planning a visit soon. It is a great place for kids to interact with animals and let their imaginations run wild. It seems plenty of families have recognized the zoo’s attributes as of late, because this past March was Tulsa Zoo’s best performing March ever in terms of attendance! If you do not take your Tulsa relocation company’s word for it, numbers don’t lie! People really seem to enjoy all that Tulsa Zoo has to offer.

The Tulsa Zoo attributes this climb in attendance to the amazing exhibits it currently has. Zoorasic Park 2 drew tons of guests. The temporary exhibit showcases 11 dino species, like the T-Tex, the Baryonyx and the Triceratops. Zoorasic Park 2 will be open until August 31. Another exhibit, the Mary K. Chapman Rhino Reserve, also drew crowds. The updated reserve houses the zoo’s white rhinos and allows for more interaction between them and guests. The reserve cost about $3.5 million, but the rhinos are a big attraction for the zoo, so it made sense for the facility. The Rhino Reserve is the first of many renovations planned for the next 20 years.

Spring break is typically the busiest nine-day period of the year, and this year was particularly busy, bringing in record attendance for the Tulsa Zoo. 56,099 guests visited, which broke the 2009 record of 52,133 guests. With these kinds of numbers, 2015 may turn out to be Tulsa Zoo’s busiest year on record! If you have little ones, plan a day at the Tulsa Zoo soon, and make sure to check out Zoorasic and the Rhino Reserve!

Are you moving to Baton Rouge and have children? Does your child love science and school? Even if they don’t, moving to Baton Rouge might help your child’s enthusiasm for education.
This week, 18 students from the Kenilworth Science and Technology Charter School in Baton Rouge, set up displays of their STEM projects for Senate and House chambers to see. The projects reflected upon the students’ enthusiasm for math, science, technology, and engineering.

Teacher at Kenilworth Middle School, Kate Williams, explained how the opportunity for students to be able to showcase their projects to government officials, will help them learn more about the government and its proceedings. The children can show officials what they are learning, and the officials can show students what they are doing about local projects.

The same group of students recently presented their projects at the Louisiana STEM Expo back in February. The Louisiana STEM Expo is an annual event where middle school students from public, private, charter, and even home-schooled, can share their science, math, and engineering projects. The 2015 expo’s theme was “Homegrown STEM in Louisiana”.

If you are moving to Baton Rouge with children who are of middle school age, be sure to check out the Louisiana STEM Expo website to get some ideas for 2016!

If you are moving to Columbus for work and will be working downtown, you may be one of the lucky few who will get free daily transportation on the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA).

A test program is set to launch this year, which will grant 1,050 downtown employees free rides on COTA. Critics have fired back at the plan, saying that the five companies in which the employees work at are “filthy rich people” and that COTA is already unaffordable for regular “working folks” because it’s upkeep caters to the upper class. (as said via a comment from Fred Franklinton on the Columbus Dispatch’s article).

However, there is no evidence that the free rides are going to any employee of a specific pay grade, and the free rides can benefit those who work in the city and are not able to currently afford to take COTA to work every day. The initiative originally was created in order to encourage new companies to join the downtown city center, freeing up parking spaces for the new companies’ employees.

Executive Director of the Capital Crossroads special improvement district Cleve Ricksecker, said that they ultimately want to free up as much parking as possible, and allow even more downtown employees to ride COTA for free. “The challenge we face right now is, how do we accommodate more people?” he said. “As parking facilities fill up, we need to look at alternatives and more parking.”

If you work for Nationwide Insurance, Bricker & Eckler LLP, Porter, Wright, Morris & Arthur LLP, Huntington Bank, and State Auto Financial in downtown Ohio, and you are moving to Columbus to be closer to work, you may be eligible to ride the COTA for free, just check with your company.

If you live in South Carolina, you probably have a deep appreciation for a good ole rack of ribs. If you just moved to Raleigh and love barbecue, then your appreciation is about to get even deeper. The Clemson-based rib joint, Sardi’s Den, is planning to open its first franchise in north Raleigh on Sunday, April 26th. Your Raleigh packing and moving company knows if this place is anything like the original, it will be packed on opening day, so get there early!

Sardi’s Den has been known for its baby back ribs, barbecue platters, pulled pork, and chicken wings for the last 20 years. Owners Irv Harrington and Mike McHenry decided to expand and begin a franchise, and the first location will be in north Raleigh. The new location will have all of the great barbecue that Sardi’s Den is known for, but it will also have a special emphasis on seafood. Franchise owners Bryan and Amber Cole plan to serve specials; like: blackened salmon, stuffed flounder and shrimp and grits (yum!). Cole spent more than 10 years with Outback Steakhouse, so he is very familiar with the industry and what customers want.

If you love a good rack of ribs, tuck in your napkin and head to Sardi’s Den in north Raleigh. The new joint is located at 8111 Creedmoor Road in Brennan Station, where the old Oliver Twist location used to be. There will be plenty of outdoor seating, so bring the family and enjoy the spring weather!

The Palm Beach International Boat Show is an event locals look forward to each year. This year the show celebrated its 30th anniversary, which was very successful. It brought in record numbers, with more boats on display and more people in attendance than any other year.

More than $1.4 billion worth of yachts and boats were on display late last month. 66 of the yachts were larger than 100 feet, which was a big draw for guests, because everyone likes to see extravagant yachts at boat shows. Organizers had to install several new slips, because the show had 200 more vessels on display than two years prior. The number of vendors also greatly increased. The show does not release the number of final attendees, but organizers say attendance grew by double digits, and 40,000 were expected.

There are tons of boat shows in South Florida, but the Palm Beach International Boat Show’s draws some of the largest crowds. One of the attractions to this particular show is its easy access. There is so much waterfront in the area, so it is easy for boats and attendees to gain access. The show is also great for the local economy. Palm Beach County has the fastest-growing marine sales in South Florida, and the boat show brings in people from around the world looking to spend.

Living in West Palm means living right next to the ocean, marinas and plenty of boats, so when the annual boat show comes around, make sure to enjoy it! If you missed this year’s show, your West Palm relocation company highly suggests you make it out next year, which will likely be even bigger!
