  • Folks in Salt Lake City may be putting away their winter jackets a little earlier than normal this year. While winters are typically pretty cold, this season had some mercy on the good residents of Salt Lake City. We had the warmest and driest winter on record this year. Your Salt Lake City relocation specialists can’t complain, but we know this winter is not exactly typical. If you are new in town, do not get used to the mild winter we just had, because snowy winters are a part of Salt Lake’s charm.

When the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City stated that the 2014-2015 winter season was the warmest and driest on record, it just confirmed what we already knew. Temperatures were five to 10 degrees warmer on average from December through February. In February alone, temperatures averaged seven to 13 degrees warmer than average.

While the warmer weather was great for folks wanting to spend some time outside, it has Utah wildlife biologists a bit worried. Hibernating trends will be shortened, which will start mating season too early. They are also worried about the lack of rain and snow, as the dry conditions can lead wildlife to seek water elsewhere.

While there are concerns about our exceptionally warm winter, it sure got your Salt Lake City moving company excited for spring. The city is a wonderful place to watch the flowers bloom, and we are thrilled you will be here to witness it!

Quaint Birmingham restaurant hot-spot Babalu has been known to residents as “tacos and tapas” but there might be other things on the menu that are so delectable, they may want to rethink their coined nickname.

In a recent excerpt on Alabama.com, columnist Alec Harvey explained his experience at Babalu, elaborating on the fact that their guacamole is just amazing, and made tableside for $9.95.

“Two Hass avocados, sun-dried tomatoes, red and green onion, kosher salt, cilantro and lime juice are standard, and you can add bacon or jalapenos for $1. Served with house chips, it’s a delicious way to kick things off,” said Harvey.

But that’s not all, the popular Birmingham “tacos and tapas” eatery also features tacos that can be stuffed with redfish, pulled pork, chicken, or veggies. When it comes to tapas, Birmingham movers think the manly residents in town would love the steak on a stick or the braised short ribs.

If you have already gone to Babalu a million times for Taco Tuesday, and you want a break from tacos, but your friends still want to go? No problem, the restaurant’s Baba Burger and grilled lamb sliders are just as delicious!

If you are new to the area, be sure to check out Babalu for your “tacos and tapas” needs, and view their entire menu here: http://babalutacos.com/

My City Lyn Caudle“Shaping the city of the future by igniting, uniting, and energizing the people of Dallas through the power of ideas”. This was the bold agenda for the recent Dallas Festival Of Ideas. The event drew local, national and international thought leaders to propose innovative directions for the city’s future. Originally scheduled for February 27th & 28th at multiple venues the event had to be scaled back to one evening and fewer venues due to the record breaking in-climate weather of the previous week.

Still there was lively and engaging discourse from many speakers. As Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said “Too much work, too many smart people, too many important ideas to be addressed for us to let a little slush get in the way”. More than a dozen speakers and 700 attendees addressed some of the most important challenges Dallas faces in the future. But for every challenge their were exciting solutions proposed.

Digital Innovation and Foresight Strategist Rahaf Harfoush suggested more broadband internet and having the city to create an app that shows where crime is happening. Build an app where people can register and receive tailored alerts about things that matter to them. Author Luis Alberto Urrea suggested a Dallas Book Festival similar to the one that has energized Tucson. Architect Vishaan Chakrabti suggested the idea of creating “nodes” that cluster business and walkable residential neighborhoods together.

Despite the grey skies, the attendees looked forward to a bright future for our city. If you see Dallas as a place to chart your future, call us here at All My Sons Moving & Storage, we’ll be there rain or shine.

Jacksonville moving companies want residents to know that for the third year in a row, Jacksonville Electric Authority may be able to give money back to customers.

JEA customers may have a reason to celebrate; the company is presently considering giving them a $56 credit. This one-time break on electric bills, follows the recommendation from the company’s finance and audit committee, to enact savings in its fuel reserves to its customers by issuing a credit for the average electric bill – about $56.

If approved, most customers can expect to see the credit sometime in April. As of late, the JEA board will consider issuing such a credit sometime next week.

The utility is able to provide such a service to their customers because of their reserve fund. The fund is created by charging each customer a fuel charge – just in case fuel prices spike. In the event that would happen, the company has enough money to cover about $95 million of the year’s total fuel costs – aka 15%.

Customers have lower than expected fuel costs to thank for the potential credit. The fund is currently $50 million over where it needs to be – the low costs pushed the reserve fund to about 19%.

Last year, the company gave their residential and commercial customer a $32 fuel credit, and the year before that customers received a $35 credit. This year’s credit will be the highest one that the company has had the chance to offer.

The recent addition of a new statewide test leaves Denver schools with mixed emotions. The new assessments are designed to be more demanding than was initially developed by PARCC (Partnership of Readiness for College and Careers).

The new PARCC test has fewer questions than the ones from the previous state test, the TCAP, along with more in-depth problems. Another student said that the previous test was easier to prepare for and was based more on what he learned in class.

The tests are currently being promoted as a major improvement, rewarding reasoning instead of memorization, offering a more engaging experience and raising the bar, so that students can succeed in college and in life.

However, the tests have been met with opposition; with people stating that they take too much time, strains schools with limited resources, and mean little to students. Others are saying that unproven tests shouldn’t factor in school and district accreditation ratings – or be a component of teacher evaluations. A lot of the criticism is focused less on PARCC and more on the larger workload.

Not everyone is criticizing the new tests though, Denver Public Schools Superintendent Tom Boasberg praised the new tests as being more sophisticated and focused on problem solving. He has also fought for fewer, shorter state tests.

Boasberg states that, “there is some irony here. Some of the folks saying we hate fill-in-the-bubble tests are saying these new tests that require you to write and explain yourself are too hard. Most people who have looked at them overwhelmingly say they are a huge step forward.”

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation gave the garden the grant through its Parks and Public Space initiative. As a parent, you make sacrifices for your children. One commonly made sacrifice is picking up and moving just so that your child can attend a better school, to ensure a brighter future.

However, before you move, All My Sons Moving & Storage moving professionals want you to take a step back and look at this move from every angle before packing up and moving. Although you may be making sure that your child receives a better education, you also need to consider the entire family and whether moving is a good decision for everyone.

A few questions to ask yourself are:

    1. Is Moving the Best Decision for Your Child?
    2. Is the School of Choice Worthy of a Move?
    3. Will the School Even Take Your Child?
    4. Will You be Able to Make it Financially?

Finding a better school and moving is easier said than done. Researching the perfect school alone, is a long and important process. As well as making sure that the school of choice is not looking to rezone in the near future. A school’s rezoning could land you right back where you started.

On the other hand, moving may seem like a great idea for you, but not for your child. If a child does not fit in or feel comfortable in their new school, it can have a negative effect on their learning capabilities. If it comes to a point where you feel that moving your family for the sake of your child’s education and future, All My Sons Moving & Storage of Fort Myers is here to assist you!

Fort Myers’ schools do not only offer a brighter future, but many bright and sunny days as well. Moving to Fort Myers is the answer to all four questions above. Fort Myers schools are a great decision for your child, residents are friendly and welcoming, school acceptance is straight forward, and best of all, Florida’s cost of living is manageable!

In hopes of creating a business district that will improve the overall Lambeau experience, as well as form additional avenues of revenue for the Green Bay Packers, the team has bought all of the land from the south side of Lombardi Ave – and in turn, leveled most of it.

When asked about what tenants will share the land that the team now owns, Green Bay Packers President, Mark Murphy, answered that, “we’re studying it. I think long term it could be one of the most impactful things we do, if we do it right. We want to make sure we get it right…It will be a mix of a lot of different things.”

Most of the tenants moving to Milwaukee will be businesses; such as: hotels, retail stores and restaurants – with a public plaza dedicated specifically to fans on game days. Murphy also disclosed that the team will begin renovating luxury suites in the stadium as well, especially since they have not had any upgrades since 2003.

Wanting to focus on adding open-air capability, Murphy explained, “That’s something we’ve been studying for a while. It’s the biggest issue we hear about, ‘I love our suites but I want to feel connected.’”

However, when it comes to the ticket prices of the games, they decided against variable ticket pricing, in an effort to dodge complaints of different ticket prices. The team wanted to avoid fans feeling as if they were treated unfairly when having to pay more for individual games, as opposed to season-ticket holders.

The city of Knoxville recently announced that a three-day, 80-vehicle rally across a big chunk of the South, will have the starting line in none other than their own city.

The 2015 Smoky Mountain Rally commences at the Clinch Avenue Bridge and makes its way throughout the south, finally ending in Savannah, Georgia two days later. Throughout the total journey, it crosses through a total of 25 stops; including historical and scenic locations.

It costs $400 plus a $100 donation to Hope for the Warriors in order to register for the rally, stopping points at cities; such as: Hendersonville, North Carolina, Athens, Georgia and Savannah, Georgia. However, drivers will have to wait to find out what the stops will be, as they remain a secret until those participating depart from their initial starting point every morning.

In order to take part in this southern rally, drivers most have a sports car, muscle car, or another “unique ride”, along with a team of at least two people. In order to make the event more festive, teams oftentimes dress up on each day – some even go so far as to create team names and themes for themselves.

The Smoky Mountain Rally is done in the name of charity, specifically, non-profit Rally North America. A fundraiser for Hope for the Warriors, the event aims to fund assistance for 9/11 service members, along with the families of the fallen who have been wounded – physically or psychologically – in the line of duty.
