The Better Business Bureau is cracking down on moving companies and warning people to be aware of dishonest moving companies in their area. Advice from the BBB and Birmingham movers – do your research!

In 2014, the BBB received 9,000 complaints regarding moving companies doing shoddy work, breaking items, being hours late, not showing up at all on the day of the move, increasing original quoted prices, and more. The biggest complaint – damaged or missing items.

The BBB, along with professional, credited Birmingham moving companies, urge you to do your homework in enough advance, so that you are not rushing last minute to hire a mover to come and move you to your new home. The BBB and local Birmingham movers also recommend that you check how long the company has been in business and verify that number. You can also request the moving company’s MDOT number and U.S. DOT number to check online to make sure they are licensed and insured. Check the mover’s website and see if they have accreditations from organizations. If your mover is legit, they will do an at-home moving quote, and the BBB suggests that you get three of these before you choose. Never settle for a phone quote, online quote, or pay cash up front before the move takes place.

All My Sons Moving & Storage Birmingham has been moving industry for over 20 years. All of our locations are licensed and certified and you can find their MDOT and U.S. DOT number on their website for you to double check. During our 20 years in business, we have worked hard to perfect the craft of moving and take the stress off of families. If you are looking to move in-state, out-of-state, or even internationally, All My Sons agrees with the BBB and urges you to do plenty of research when hiring a local mover to move your most treasured item – your family.

May is National Moving Month, and although it may be over, the moving season is not and there are things that you and your family should keep in mind this moving season. From April of 2014 to April of 2015, the Better Business Bureau received 30,149 inquires related to moving companies located in Washington alone. During that timeframe, 120 consumers filed reports and even lawsuits against moving companies; the majority of the issue being damaged or missing items.

All My Sons Moving & Storage Atlanta along with the BBB, have tips to make sure that your summer move goes as smoothly as possible:

    1. Double check that the Atlanta mover you hire has the proper licensing and insurance. You can check the MDOT and US DOT number online at the S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration: Licensing and Insurance Public website.
    2. Reach out to as many moving companies as you can, receiving at least three estimates.
    3. Get everything in writing
    4. Check with BBB to see the mover’s rating and if there are any complaints filed against them.
    5. Download the free Moving Fraud Prevention Guide. Interstate moving companies are required to comply with federal rules and regulations, which includes registering with FMCSA. Go to the FMCSA website and search to see if the movers you received quotes from are registered movers and view their complaint history. Knowing your rights when it comes to moving your belongings is important, so you can take the appropriate course of action if anything does occur, and this site will give you all of the information you need, but All My Sons hopes you won’t have to go this far. If you do not need to move out-of-state, you may still want to hire a mover who is FMCSA registered, so that your move will be properly taken care of.

King Moving & Storage, also known as Neighbors Moving & Storage and Father & Son Movers is under fire in Denver.

According to an article published by ABC 7News Denver, the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) received eight complaints against the moving company last year, which is more than any other moving company in the area. This moving season alone, King Moving & Storage has racked up $16,940 in fines.

Chief of Transportation for PUC, Ron Jack, told the Denver news outlet that PUC does have more authority this year than ever before, in order to shut down movers that don’t pay their fines; however, they are still limited when the moving company is actually paying their fines.

“If those violations occurred again, we can double the fines and then triple the fines,” Jack said.

Although it seems as if King Moving & Storage has been trying to be better, many are skeptical.

According to ABC 7NEWS Denver, “The company’s current CFO served federal time for drug charges, and was just released earlier this year. The company’s new owner, Henry Aragon, was ordered to pay the State of Colorado $275,000 last year. The Colorado Attorney General said he was running ‘magazine-sales telemarketing companies’ that “deceived and defrauded consumers” across the nation.” With such corrupt individuals running the company, Denver residents who have suffered a loss of thousands of dollars during their move – would like to see the company shut down, and so would reputable Denver movers.

Tammy Van Boening was one of those residents, and she explained how all of her moving boxes were wet and damaged, with most of her belongings completely destroyed. She said King Moving & Storage stored her belongings for two weeks, during which time the company allowed her stuff to be rained on, ruining everything. Another resident, Josh Zygielbaum, had his belongings held hostage until he paid more money. Even CALL 7 Investigators were misled during a hidden camera investigation on the corrupt moving company – who tried charging them an 18% “state moving tax” that does not actually exist in Colorado. When CALL7 Investigators refused to pay the tax, King Moving & Storage drove off and kept their belongings hostage.

All My Sons Moving & Storage Denver wants anyone who is moving in or out of the Denver area to be aware of moving fraud, fraudulent moving companies and practices, and do your research when it comes to hiring a professional moving company. Don’t fall victim to moving hostage, hire a legitimate moving company that comes highly recommended within the city – like All My Sons.

Advocates, developers, Columbus movers, and Republican lawmakers are pushing for wind energy initiatives in Ohio and the major city of Columbus to pass.

Last year, the fight for wind energy and the restoration of the state’s energy efficiency and renewable energy standards was a long, hard battle; and this year, it was lost. Now, advocates are pressuring lawmakers to renegotiate.

According to Midwest Energy News, the setback limits would be “devastating” and advocates, along with the Office of the Ohio Consumers Council urge lawmakers to see the benefits that wind energy has to offer. In a world that is coming to realize the effects of global warming and the benefits of natural energy initiatives, it is surprising that Columbus lawmakers are not on board with renewable energy standards and their economic benefits.

Columbus moving companies like All My Sons, know that moving in large trucks is not very energy efficient; however, we support all local, city, and state initiatives for renewable energy sources – including wind energy here in Ohio. Since many potential residents want to move to a city and town that is progressive, movers urge the city to be progressive, in order to make Columbus and the state of Ohio more attractive for home buyers and movers, big business, and to have a thriving economy.

Many factors come into play when people are looking to move to another city or state. Some people may move to look for a better job opportunity, families may move to a city or state with a better school system, but a lot of people and families move to a more economically stable and beneficial city and/or state. When it comes to moving to be better economically situated, that could also have many of its own facets; like: moving to a state with lower state taxes, lower property taxes, higher median household income, lower median housing cost, and moving for more affordable healthcare.

Baton Rouge movers know that while increasing the availability of Medicaid in Louisiana is not ideal to a lot of citizens, the extent to which it can actually help residents within a particular area, is great. Certain states that did not approve Medicaid expansion are: Florida, Alabama, Texas, and Mississippi, making it so that 4.3 million Americans will be without coverage next year, across 22 states. But, the state of Louisiana is currently making the decision whether or not to combat that issue.

Relying on data from the Urban Institute, expanding Medicaid in Louisiana would give better health coverage to over 193,000 low-income residents in 2016. Among those who would be helped, 56% of them hold jobs that breakdown to: 34,000 food service workers, 25,000 who work in sales, 17,000 in office and administrative support jobs, 24,000 in construction, 22,000 in cleaning and maintenance services, 14,000 in transportation, and 14,000 in personal care – like child care workers.

Having access to Medicaid means lower health care costs and fewer economic struggles for low-income workers. If the expansion initiative for Medicaid in Louisiana is passed, 27,400 residents would have a better chance at being able to pay their bills in 2016, since they will not have to pay for high healthcare costs that do not suit their budget. Baton Rouge movers look forward to seeing the outcome for Louisiana Medicaid in 2016, and, if passed, expects that it could make Louisiana more appealing for those who are looking to move to a more affordable area in terms of healthcare.

The historic Lehi Roller Mills, also known as the backdrop for the 1984 film Footloose, has overcome a bankruptcy scare and is once again, flourishing.

Widely considered a landmark for the entire state of Utah, the flour company has long since been a tourist destination for Footloose enthusiasts everywhere. Moving companies in Utah have often times named Lehi Roller Mills as one of the places that new residents to Salt Lake City must visit; luckily, they can continue to do that. While just three years ago, the 110-year-old mill was battling bankruptcy, now the company’s yearly sales are steadily growing by double-digit percentages.

According to Lehi Mayor Bert Wilson, “it’s always exciting to see a business back and thriving, but especially one that’s a landmark for the whole state.” A cozy store, Lehi Roller Mills has a loyal base of walk-in customers that come from all over Utah, in order to stock up on the extremely recognizable bags of gourmet mixes for pancakes, muffins, cookies and brownies. In fact, it used to be one of the most frequented shops of its type for those relocating to Lehi.

Originally founded in 1906 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994, Lehi Roller Mills was built by George G. Robinson, who prided himself on keeping the family business consistently offering the best quality flour from wheat grown by farmers across the state of Utah. Because of Robinson’s commitment to selling the best that Utah farmers had to offer, he built of a loyal customer base within the Utah farmer community.

Because of the recent renewed success of the company, Salt Lake City movers can continue to recommend that families new to Utah take a trip to visit the iconic Lehi Roller Mills.

The locals of Durham may have sensed an unusually uplifting feeling in the air of the city the past few days, while local Durham movers might have noticed that newcomers to the city have been receiving an unusually cheery welcome this week as well. If you have recently moved to Durham and are wondering why the city’s hospitality has spiked, it may be because the local Durham choir just found out that they will be singing backup for the Rolling Stones when they come to town this July, at the Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh. The surprise announcement stunned the members of the choir, who were given the news during one of their routine rehearsals.

Brian Schmidt, conductor of the Duke University Vespers Ensemble, shares that, “it was astounding to see their faces. Most of them thought, ‘wait, did you just say the Rolling Stones?’”

This past year, the ensemble released their first CD; a compilation of the type of music that they usually sing, which is early Renaissance-era sacred music. While the rock band’s music is a departure from what the choir usually sings, the offer is, according to Schmidt, “a great testament to the work this choir is doing. They’ve brought a lot of professionalism to the project.”

Needless to say, if you are moving to Durham before July 1st, you can find your local Durham movers and new neighbors at the Rolling Stones concert to cheer on their local choir. Expect to see everyone there – from long-term locals to fellow new Durham residents, local Durham business owners to your trusted Durham moving company after they finish moving you in.

Since this past August, Jason Erikson has taught patients that are middle and high school students at Integris Mental Health Spencer in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City movers have learned that Erikson has been getting everyone’s attention at the center with his passion for his job, and it is clear why.

According to Erikson, “I really want to make my family proud by doing what I love. This is what I like to do”, and Oklahoma City families like what he’s doing too.

If you are moving to Oklahoma City and your child needs special learning assistance, Erikson teaches his classes slightly differently than how other professors typically do. His reasoning for incorporating assignments such as career-day into his class, is because he “want(s) to make them aware of the possibilities. Also, maybe they didn’t think they had a future. It gives them hope, imaging a life past this crisis that’s going on in their lives right now. I think it’s therapeutic, too.”

Having originally worked installing flooring, Erikson went back to school and got his English degree and teaching certification. When he graduated, he did not have a job and was not sure that he wanted to teach at all. However, after doing the flooring for the assistant principal for Oklahoma City Public Schools’ extended educational services, he went on an interview and has been teaching students within the criminal justice system and mental health facilities since then.

One mental health care worker, Alex Escarcega, shares that, “the way he’s doing his work and keeping the kids focused, I like it. I’ve had teachers who will print out the work and say ‘here you go.’ But him…being involved with the kids, moving around, (he does an) excellent job.” Erikson is the kind of teacher that families who are moving to Oklahoma City hope that their child receives and the city thanks him for such outstanding work and citizenship.
