  • Milwaukee is most well-known for beer and baseball. That’s why it is no surprise that Milwaukee is the home of the Wisconsin Craft Beer Festival. Held every year in October, the WCBF consists of beer tasting sessions, classes to learn how to brew beer, and an overall good time. The Wisconsin Craft Beer Festival is being held at the Harley-Davidson Museum.

The festival is dedicated to being brewer-centric, and a genuine taproom experience for all who attend. Every brewer present will bring a “taproom only” beer, or a limited release beer. The festival will feature brewers from all over the country, with samples of more than 150 craft beers and ciders.

The festival is one weekend long and there is a seminar on how to brew beer almost every hour, on Friday until 4 p.m. There are two seminars Saturday morning, and the rest of the time is reserved for mingling and beer tastings. There are all sorts of events and sessions that you can attend, and there will be food.

All access VIP tickets for each type of event are available and there is even an All Access VIP pass for the entire weekend. Whether you are looking to go to a few events or attend everything possible, there is a ticket for you. People from all across the country are expected to attend, with the best of the best in craft beer moving to Milwaukee for the weekend.

If you are moving to Milwaukee in the coming months, don’t miss the 2015 Beer Festival!

When people hear West Palm Beach they think big mansions, Donald Trump, and perfect beaches. What they don’t think about is steadily dropping crime rates, a steadily growing (but still somewhat small) population, and the wonderful lack of winter. If you are moving to West Palm Beach, these are some things to remember.

Since 2000, West Palm Beach’s crime rate has dropped more than 50%. Following a trend that is happening statewide, crime rates are falling at a rapid rate in the West Palm Beach area. Even though the population is continuing to grow, people are appearing to be less violent. Police chiefs in the area are even saying the world that we live in now is safer than it was 20 years ago. Low crime rates are definitely a reason to consider moving to West Palm Beach.

The 2010 census determined that the population of West Palm Beach was at 99,919, being just shy of 100,000. A recent estimate puts that number at 104,031, making the population just over 100,000. This sows that West Palm Beach is growing at a steady rate, but it is still small enough. It isn’t overcrowded like the big cities in Florida, like Miami and Orlando, yet it has all the amenities.

Let’s not forget about the lack of winter. Being so far south means that it doesn’t get too cold. The average low for the winter months doesn’t go below 50 degrees. West Palm Beach might possibly be a slice of heaven on earth.

SuperShuttle has moved to Salt Lake City. What is SuperShuttle you ask? SuperShuttle is a shuttle service that picks you up and drops you off at the airport, and picks you up from the airport when you return from your trip. Then, SuperShuttle drops you off at home. It has locations all over the United States and even some overseas, and it has finally moved to Salt Lake City.

This top-of-the-line shuttle service allows you to avoid paying for parking while you travel, and it takes a little weight off your back. You can book online, at the airport, or even download the app. After booking your shuttle, all you have to do is sit back and relax.

SuperShuttle keeps its prices competitive, by fluctuating their price somewhere between that of the cost of public transportation and a private taxi. Through this method, you get a comfortable ride to and from the airport for a really reasonable price, without a large crowd, even though it is a shared shuttle service.

On top of all of the perks to SuperShuttle, the greatest of all being the new location in Salt Lake City, you can even gain rewards points through certain airlines when you use SuperShuttle.

If you are moving to Salt Lake City from out-of-state and have hired a long-distance mover to move your belongings while you fly to Salt Lake, you can download the ShuperShuttle app and have a car waiting for you at the Salt Lake City airport, to then take you to your new home.

Your local Kansas City movers are excited that the Kansas City Council is set to finally vote on a mandate designated to track energy consumption throughout the next few years.

The plan, if approved, will need large buildings in order to assess and report how much energy and water is used. Cities that have already approved this mandate are: Austin, Boston, Cambridge, Minneapolis, Chicago, Atlanta, Portland, Washington D.C., New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Berkeley and Seattle. It is because of the success of the mandate in other cities, that Kansas City is now interested in following suit regarding making their city more energy efficient.

According to Scott Taylor, Councilman, the main goal regarding implementing the way of tracking energy is “to make this a top-notch city as far as energy efficiency and being progressive.”

Starting in May 2017, buildings that are privately owned and have more than 100,000 square feet, are going to need to start collecting data, which has a public release date of September 1, 2018. Many owners of the affected properties are in favor of the new mandate, because they say that it is environmentally beneficial and that the energy updates will eventually pay for themselves in time.

However, not everyone shares the same sentiments, stating that this will just end up driving out businesses that do not want to comply with the mandate, moving them to neighboring towns that do not have to abide by the same rules. Needless to say, the only way to find out how the mandate will pan out is to see whether or not it ends up getting passed.

The 5-acre nonprofit sanctuary in Fort Myers which rescues and houses primates who have been abused, the Talkin’ Monkeys Project, is facing a nuisance lawsuit that claims that the organization has violated Florida’s Sunshine Law by approving them.

Neighbors Mary and James Harrison complain that the noises from the monkeys cause “discomfort, distress and inconvenience” that will greatly drive down the valuation of their home. Another suit that was filed last year also states that the county approved the sanctuary without first taking a poll of the opinion of the rest of the community.

However, Deborah Misotti, director of the Talkin’ Monkeys Project, argues that, “county code enforcement and the sheriff’s department have done decibel checks of the noise levels of our primates and they were all within the acceptable range. They are confined to night houses at night and they sleep from dusk to dawn.”

Misotti goes on to further defend the sanctuary by arguing that, “we are an educational primate sanctuary. We are a service learning center for colleges and universities all over the world, as well as Florida schools. And we’re basically here as an educational facility. We do not breed. We rescue only.”

Students from Florida Gulf Coast University also volunteer and intern there as part of the school’s program.

Commission chair, Karson Turner, shows his support for the program by stating that “the community they’re located in is overwhelmingly proud of that facility and what it does…as a destination for students for around the world.”

As high schoolers are getting ready to pack up and move to college, local public health officials are urging students to update their vaccinations before they leave. A lot of colleges and universities around the country, and in Florida, are requiring more vaccines to prevent outbreaks, and Sarasota health officials are doing their part to get teens vaccinated.

In Sarasota, at the Department of Health in Sarasota, vaccines are free for teenagers enrolled in high school, or 19 and under. The Department of Health is able to do this because of a federally funded program. Without the program, the vaccines can cost more than $300. The recommended vaccines include: bacterial meningitis, tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis, and HPV. It is also recommended that college bound students also get the hepatitis A vaccine and the varicella vaccine, which prevents chickenpox.

Their motivation is the idea of herd immunity. If these teens get updated vaccines before they move away to attend school, it will lessen their chances of contracting the diseases and bringing them back to Sarasota during their vacations back home. On top of that, it is far less expensive to get them through this federally funded program, rather than waiting to get them later in life.

In a time when people are choosing not to vaccinate, the best defense is a good offense, and that offense is to get vaccinated before you move to attend any college in the U.S. If you are moving to Sarasota to attend college, check with your college, because they may not allow you to attend if you are not vaccinated first.

After moving to Tulsa, you may not expect to find many art studios, museums, and cultural centers. After all, Tulsa is in the Midwest. But once you do some exploring, you will be pleasantly surprised by what Tulsa has to offer its residents. You will find plenty of places to appreciate art, learn about different disciplines, and take your children for an educational family day.

For instance, Tulsans flock to the Brady Arts District during First Friday Art Crawl. This monthly crawl is held on the first Friday of the month, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. During the crawl, art galleries, studios, and museums open their doors to the public for free. Mini galleries also pop up, shops stay open late, and you can expect to see street performances, live music, vendors, and other entertainment. For instance, this month, 12 galleries and studios opened their doors, six bars and restaurants featured art, and there was entertainment like: live music, dance contests, and a performance by the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra. When First Friday Art Crawl began in 2007, about 50 people came to the first event. Today, more than 3,000 attend.

Tulsa is also home to the Philbrook Museum of Art, which opens its doors to the public, free of charge, the second Saturday of each month. Special entertainment is booked for these events, like theatre dancers. Attendance to Philbrook’s free admission days has grown in popularity as well. 257 people came to its first event, and now, about 2,000 people come to the museum the second Saturday of the month.

Tulsa has grown to be a pretty big city. As such, its cultural scene as exploded. If you are new to town, make sure your family takes advantage of all that Tulsa has to offer!

Memorial Day is right around the corner, and for Columbus, it is the welcoming of summer. What better way to welcome summer than grilling with friends and family on Memorial Day! Columbus movers want new residents to know that here in Columbus, we are all about the grilling and barbecuing! In lieu of the holiday, The Columbus Dispatch has tips for Memorial Day grilling, from local Columbus cooking teacher Tom Hughes.

    – Heat the Grill well – regardless of whether you are cooking with wood or charcoal briquettes, make sure that all coals are hot before you put the meat on the grill. This way, your meat will cook evenly and perfectly.

    – Distribute heat according to what you are grilling – pile the coals to create direct spots for quick grilling, and place meats that you know will take longer, over cooler spots so that it can cook but not get overly charred.

    – Coal vs. Wood – when it comes to choosing between wood briquettes and charcoal, Hughes prefers wood briquettes, so that the food does not end up with a chemical smell and taste that comes from charcoal and lighter fluid.

    – Let it sit – Hughes explains that many people constantly check whatever they are grilling, poking and probing it, rather than letting it sit. His tip to grillers – get comfortable letting the meat sit untouched, allowing it to cook with great flavor and evenly.

    – Grill your veggies – Cut vegetables in large enough slices that they will not fall through the grill grates, in case you do not have a grill basket; you can even use skewers.

If you are moving to Columbus and like to cook, you can even catch one of Tom Hughes grilling classes at the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, the Seasoned Farmhouse, and Sur la Table.

This past month, the Metro Caring Hunger Relief Center opened a new facility that has three times the amount of space as the original one.

Not only does this give members of the Denver community the opportunity to get food when they cannot provide for themselves or their families, but it also means that those that have been waiting for a chance to visit the center finally have a spot to claim.

One visitor to the Center, Dorothy Garcia, confided that, “I couldn’t get in at the old building because it was too crowded. This time it’s really a snap.”

The Metro Caring Hunger Relief Center operates by providing a place where families deprived of food – and with no ability to provide any – can shop in the market once a month – for free. But the center does not stop its amenities there, because they also provide services such as gardening classes, nutritional tips, and financial help for up to $1,000 on delinquent cell phone and energy bills. Not many cities other than Denver, offer such immense help to families in need.

The waiting list to shop at the Center has always been extensive, and program director, Ryan Galanaugh, muses that it is because, “the great thing about this shopping model is we’re trying to replicate what we see at Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods. At food banks, you tend to get a prepackaged box. This is a more dignified experience.”

Needless to say, he also expressed that the community can expect an influx of people packing and moving to Denver in order to have easier access to the Center.

One of the most common reasons that people surrender animals to shelters is due to moving, and they think that the move will be too strenuous on the animal. However, with the proper precautions taken, a move can be minimally stressful on animals, and you and your furry friend can stay together. If you are moving to Salt Lake City and you have a rabbit, here are some tips to make moving with your friendly hopper a little easier.

Rabbits are notorious for not handling stress well, which is why they are often dropped off at animal shelters. The best thing you can do to help eliminate stress from your rabbit’s move is to plan ahead. They don’t do well in heat and they need to stay hydrated.

During your trip, keeping your rabbit cool is incredibly important and keeping your car cool should do the trick. In addition to blasting your AC, the pull down shades that you suction cup to your window might also help keep them at a comfortable temperature and create a comfortable moving environment. Leaving your rabbit in a hot car while you go inside somewhere could be detrimental, so do everything you can to avoid leaving them alone for too long.

As for keeping them hydrated, the typical water bottles that you see in rabbit cages might leak while you are on the road. To ensure that your rabbit stays hydrated when you stop at night, whether at your new home or hotel, make sure they drink enough water to catch up for what they didn’t drink overnight. Keeping an eye on their hydration is the key to keeping your rabbit comfortable during the moving process.

Remember, planning ahead is the best way to eliminate stress when you are moving your rabbit!
