  • Currently, Kansas City movers and the rest of the community are gearing up to welcome an influx of cicadas to their city. While they only pay a visit every 17 years, they certainly have no problem making their presence known to residents of the city. The cicadas are known for their extremely loud and repetitive mating that causes quite the disturbance to the locals that have to listen to it.

Rob Lawrence, a former entomologist with the Missouri Department of Conservation, explains that, “it could be thousands or millions coming out in a small area and giving a deafening roar, a deafening noise in the trees. If you were trying to have some kind of an outdoor event, it might be kind of deafening.”

The areas that can be expected to be hit the hardest are Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Iowa, Nebraska and Texas. A recent study done by Vanderbilt University, reveals that cicadas from Tennessee has reached as high as 88 decibels – which is also as loud as a food blender is. Needless to say, it definitely causes quite the interruption in day-to-day life for the residents of Kansas City.

However, others remind us how the bugs are not that bad – Bill Graham, a spokesman with the Missouri Department of Conservation explains that, “you’re talking about a bug that has a face that looks like a Darth Vader mask, with these really amazing-looking cellophane wings, makes this cool sound and sings sort of symphony-like, rising and falling in sound.”

If you are moving to Atlanta this month and are looking for some place to take your children to let loose during the day… take them to the only place in town that is 126 years old and entertains children by day, but adults by night.

That’s right – Zoo Atlanta is not your typical zoo…well, it is during the day, but at night the park turns into Wild on the Rocks. Wild on the Rocks is the Zoo’s monthly cocktails and creatures after-work party, and it kicks off on May 14th this year. The theme for May is “Scaly Slimy Spectacular”, and once a month, starting at 6 p.m., adults can exhibit the animals, enjoy live music from Jules and the Gents, taste cocktails, delectable food from food trucks, and view zoo-centric art from local Atlanta artists.

If you will not be in the area in May, you can still get in on the after-work parties on June 11 for the “Art with Animals” – animals that paint. You can also come July 9th for “Eat. Prey. Love” – discover the hunting and mating habits of the zoo animals, and August 13th for the “Sunset Scavenger Hunt”. Admission per event is $15 for Zoo members, and $20 for non-Zoo members. If you are not a Zoo Atlanta member- you definitely will want to become one after delighting in one of the Zoo’s adult nights!

The newest project on deck for downtown Fort Myers, involves adding changes to both their streets and neighborhoods, which is something that Fort Myers movers are looking forward to.

In an effort to bring new life to the downtown area, the Community Redevelopment Agency is working to create plans to redevelop Gardner’s Park – a historic 1920s neighborhood. One of the ways that they plan on updating the historic area, is by adding roundabouts to two intersections that are known to have an ongoing problem with becoming overly congested during rush hour. By creating a better flow of traffic, they hope increase the amount of residents who have access to the downtown area.

According to Don Paight, director of the Community Redevelopment Agency, “the idea is to encourage artists to come to the area for studio space and living space.” Residents of Gardner’s Park hope to transform the quaint area into an art village with everything from shops, art studios, and living space.

Further plans involve improving upon the landscaping in the area, adding a two-way bike lane, and building gateway arches throughout the park.

Owners of local businesses in the area are excited for the upcoming change, as Rob Johnson, owner of the Butterfly Estates on Fowler Street, says that “I’m excited for all of the shop owners. The local business owners came together to push the agenda.”

However, the plan will most likely take at least seven months before the proposal will be accepted and actually be able to come to fruition. Once the plan is adopted, the city will finally be able to move ahead with the changes.

This past Friday, Jacksonville paid tribute to the soldiers who were aboard the USS Stark 28 years ago when it met its untimely death. The ceremony of remembrance was held at Naval Station Mayport, which included several members of the 1987 crew of Stark, along with family members of those who were aboard the ship that day.

In total, 37 soldiers died while on patrol in the Arabian Gulf when the ship was hit with two missiles. In lieu of all of the damage that inevitably occurred that day, the crew managed to save the ship. The USS Stark was officially retired in 1999, which is also when the first ceremony was held in its honor.

As a way of keeping the memory alive of the bravery that the crew from the Stark demonstrated that day, they have made sure to make the memorial a yearly tradition.

According to Bill Austin, of the Naval Station Mayport, “I think it’s very important to continue the tradition of honoring those shipmates that fell during that time. There was loss and we need to honor that loss and sacrifice and we do that every year here at Naval Station Mayport. We ring the bell for each sailor that was lost. It’s a very solemn ceremony but it’s a tribute that we will continue to do here and rightfully so.”

Colorado governor, John Hickenlooper, has had better weeks – 90 of the 100 lawmakers signed a letter stating that they do not trust his decision making skills anymore, regarding his management over the human services department. In order to gain back the confidence of the people, they have suggested overhauling staff members in higher positions, immediately.

The department under fire deals with areas of the Colorado community; such as: child welfare, mental institutions, and youth prisons. Specifically, the main concern is regarding an uncomfortable working atmosphere fueled by self-preservation and the desire to protect to himself – instead of the people included in the human services department.

Described as a “pervasive hostile work environment,” the letter states that, “most recently, these accounts have increased dramatically, now coming directly from our constituents, some having reached the public media outlets, with no word from the department or your office.”

The letter came as a surprise to the Colorado governor to say the least, as he expressed that this was the first time he was hearing about these complaints. Although he and his staff stated that the concerns were never brought up during weekly government meetings, the letter contradicts this claim; lawmakers stated that any request for a meeting was either ignored or not honored.

However, executive director, Reggie Bicha, has released a statement reassuring the lawmakers and general public, “please know I take all concerns seriously. I have worked my entire life to make the lives of families and children better – a goal I know is also motivating those who signed this letter.”

If you recently moved to West Palm, you have surely noticed the upscale stores and services the area provides its residents. There are plenty of luxury accommodations afforded to those who live in the area. A sure sign of the county’s clout is Braman Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Palm Beach. The local dealership was recognized as Rolls-Royce’s global and North American dealer of the year.

This is a very big honor for the Palm Beach Rolls-Royce dealership, as it is the first time a North American dealership has been awarded both honors. The award is based on sales, customer service and how the dealership handles used Rolls-Royces and their parts. The dealership sold 65 new Rolls-Royces last year, which is more than double what they sold it 2013. The awards will also allow the dealership to get their hands on the limited supply of new models Rolls-Royce produces. The recognition is also great for Palm Beach as whole. It illustrates the strong economy and lavish lifestyle available in Palm Beach County. As the popularity of the Rolls-Royce brand increases in the area, more cars are bought and leased, and more referrals are made. But they come at a price.

Rolls-Royces start at about $300,000 and can reach $600,000 at Braman Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Palm Beach. Leases are typically around $3,000 a month. At such a high cost, customers can personalize just about anything in their new vehicles. Paint colors, interior materials and colors, and personalized accents are all customizable.

While a Rolls-Royce may be much more extravagant than what the average Palm Beacher drives, it is still a sign of a strong and growing local economy.

Internet access and speed have become increasingly important in our lives. Google recognizes this and has an interest in ensuring people continue to rely on the internet. Google began its Google Fiber initiative in 2010 in Kansas City. Since then, it has slowly rolled out to other areas. Google Fiber just announced Salt Lake City will be the next town to enjoy its super-fast internet. You might notice Google Fiber trucks in your neighborhood, laying the framework in the coming months. Your Salt Lake City relocation specialists are looking forward to it!

Google Fiber’s connection is unparalleled. It offers up to 1,000 megabits per second, which is incredibly fast. Basic Internet is free after an initial setup fee. While the basic internet is not nearly as fast as the paid service (about five Mbps), it is free! The Gigabit Internet package reaches up to 1,000 Mbps with one terabyte of cloud storage for Google Drive, Gmail and Google+ photos for $70 per month. The next package offers the same internet as the Gigabit Internet connection, along with 150+ channels of television with the capability to record eight shows at once for $130 per month. Pretty sweet deal!

Educators are especially excited about Google Fiber, as it offers basic internet service for underprivileged homes. Home internet connection is important for education, as it dictates what kind of homework teachers can assign.

Google Fiber is another reason why moving to Salt Lake City is a good idea. Just seven other cities have Google Fiber or are in the process of construction: Atlanta, Austin, Charlotte, Kansas City, Nashville, Provo, and Raleigh-Durham.

New to Raleigh? Then you have to check out Nash Square, a hidden downtown gem. This downtown park is beautiful, but it always seems pretty empty. In spite of its beauty, the park does not offer a ton to do. There are benches and memorials, and that is about it. City officials are trying to change that, with a 10-year plan to revitalize and develop the Raleigh area. Your Raleigh relocation company is excited for the development, because our downtown parks should be enjoyed by everyone!

The plan involves turning Nash Square into a “connector park” for Union Station and Moore Square. There is talk of adding plenty of residential and commercial buildings to bring people to the area. Restaurants and shops are also likely additions, as the goal is to draw people into Nash Square and keep them there. The plan includes a new entry plaza and reconfigured pathways, too. While none of this is set in stone, city planners say they are currently weighing costs and effectiveness. Residents (like you!) are encouraged to bring comments through May 13th to the City Planning Director, Ken Bowers. City planners will use these comments when they finalize the plan. The plan will include revitalizing four other areas downtown: Glenwood Green, Moore Square, Gateway Center and North End.

If you are new to Raleigh, head down to Nash Square to enjoy the beautiful spring weather. Get to know the area, and give your comments to city developers before May 13th. Maybe you can be a part of its revitalization!

Every zoo is full of life – animal wildlife that is! However, this month was a wonderful month for the Columbus Zoo, who welcomed tiger triplets! Endangered tiger species – the Amur tiger – has had a successful year of litters and the zoo and Columbus movers urge new residents to come out and see the newest additions to the zoo.

The triplets were born to 10-year-old Amur tiger Irisa, which was yet another successful litter for the endangered tiger in the past few years.

Columbus Zoo president Tom Stalf, says that the triplets were born at a mere 2 ½ pounds each, but are alive and thriving.

Zookeepers have told news teams that the tiger babies are being kept in an incubator and are being personally fed, since Irisa is a first-time mother, yet such an older age. Reports say that Irisa did not take well to her babies and was not really caring for them, so zookeepers took charge.

Since the father of the newest litter has already fathered two previous litters, he is being retired from breeding and is being moved to Rolling Hills Zoo in Kansas next year. In attempts to diversify the genes, another male tiger is being transferred to the Columbus Zoo from the Czech Republic to live and breed; bringing a new genetic makeup to the tigers of North America.

If you are new in the area, be sure to take your children to see the baby tigers!
