  • When the Salt Lake City movers drive away and you are left alone in a new city or even just a new neighborhood across town, it can be difficult to connect with the people around you. Luckily Salt Lake City residents, along with people across the country, have found ways to come together with the help of the Internet.

    NextDoor

NextDoor is a free social media website created specifically to bring neighbors together. Simply enter your address to determine your neighborhood and sign up. Discussions range from reports of theft to garage sales, babysitters, and more.

    MeetUp

MeetUp focuses more on shared interests and hobbies. Search the site for people nearby who are into doing the same things as you. Open groups exist for stay at home moms, “outdoor thrillseekers” and local business owners among many, many other options.

    Garage Sale Groups

Looking to furnish your new place? Although Craigslist is still the used goods go-to for many, it can be daunting in a big city. Search Facebook for groups selling, trading, or giving away great stuff closer to your part of town. Many groups specify a neighborhood or zip code, ensuring that you won’t have to drive too far to pick up that new dining room table.

It can take time to feel at home in a new place. Sites like those listed above and others can help make the process quicker and easier.

S&P/Case Shiller recently reported that home price gains have lowered throughout the US. The annual gains for the 10-city and 20-city composites were 10.8 percent, which was a drop from the previous months. In metro Atlanta, however, the opposite was reported. Thanks to investors looking to purchase homes to rent out, the price gains in Atlanta and the sales growth overall have been trending in the southern city.

Interested in moving to Atlanta? There are a lot of competing sellers and buyers in the area, and it has proven to be a tough task for many looking to purchase property in Atlanta.

It is likely that the market will become increasingly competitive for buyers, which will then slow the market overall. As less inventory is available, less inventory can be moved. This is all normal though, and the more stable the market is, the more likely it is to slow down and hit a balance. The market has been strengthening not only in Atlanta, but in the entire state of Georgia. In fact, the median price for selling a home in Georgia has gone up nearly 40 percent in the past year.

Besides getting a security system, there are other things that you can do to increase the safety of your home. The professional Jacksonville movers of All My Sons can provide you with excellent moving advice as well as useful security tips for your new home.

    Think About Your Location

While you’re looking at homes, it’s important that you check the crime rate of the area. Even if a home costs a little more than you’re comfortable with, it may be worth the cost to live in a safe neighborhood. Look at the houses in the area to see how many of them have window decals and yard signs for security systems.

    Stay Smart

Get into the habit of checking all of the locks before you go to bed. Install an automatic garage door opener and give your extra house key to a trusted neighbor rather than hiding it somewhere a burglar might find it.

    Ask the Police for Help

You can call the police even when you don’t have a break in. Ask the local police if they can swing by and inspect your new home for points of vulnerability and for additional security suggestions.

Get the Illusion of a Dog

Just because you don’t have a dog is no reason for potential burglars to know that. Get a “Beware of Dog” sign for your home and make a habit of asking service people to wait while you put the dog up before you invite them in. Doing this might feel a little silly, but it can help keep you safe.

The Jacksonville movers at All My Sons are here to keep your belongings safe while you move and your home safe when you’re all moved in.

Any Texan knows that we’ve fared better in the recent economic downturn, but it’s more impressive than one may think. The Texan economy, between the sizes of the Canadian and Australian economies, increased real GSP by more than double the US federal improvement.

Job growth is also nearly double the national rate, thanks in part to Texas based Pledge To Hire and similar hiring initiatives. What does this mean for Austin businesses like All My Sons Moving & Storage?

It means hiring moving professionals, it means keeping our employees, and it means lower costs for Austin moving. If you’re planning a local move any time soon or a long distance move, call All My Sons Moving & Storage for a free quote. (512) 443-3700

If things go well, Baton Rouge is going to see a few dozen new faces soon. With baby boomer teachers starting to retire, around fifty jobs have opened up in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System alone. In large cities like Baton Rouge with a deficit of available teachers, it’s common to hold job fairs elsewhere. That’s exactly what’s happening.

After the recent event in Moon Township, PA, we’ve made some headway. Things are better, but Louisiana will still need more teachers every year. We at All My Sons Moving & Storage feel that moving to Baton Rouge is always a great plan, and we’re glad as a family owned company to welcome any new teachers to the area.

It’s been an interesting ride for the Oklahoma City housing market. With a robust local economy, Oklahoma City employment among the highest in the nation and mortgage lending rates still at historic low rates, the ingredients are all in place for a successful and fruitful real estate market. And while sales are strong, inventory is dropping and new construction is seemingly at a halt.

In fact, at the end of July new home starts in the Oklahoma City area were down 8.9 percent compared to this time last year across Oklahoma City, Edmond, Midwest City, Moore and Norman, according to the number of building permits issued by each city. The cities issued a combined 2,867 permits the first seven months of 2014. The only area to see growth in permits is Moore, which had permits up 17.8 percent.

According to some, the biggest problem for people looking to move to Oklahoma City and build a home is that lack of developed land ready for new neighborhoods. This problem is likely only going to escalate further. The supply of preowned housing is melting away, dropping to 4.2 months by July 31. Inventory is lowest in the middle and lower-middle price ranges where most people live: a 3.3-month supply for houses priced $125,001-$200,000, and a 3.4-month supply for those priced $75,001-$125,000.

Recently, the PGA National Resort and Spa held a cupcake decorating event called The Great Cupcake Challenge as a part of the property’s Sweet Treat Weekend. The resort currently holds the Guinness World Record for longest ice cream sundae from last year’s event, and this year’s efforts were aimed towards creating the largest cupcake wedding cake. A “Chocolate Affair” was held in the iBAR and lobby Friday night. It featured a chocolate buffet, milk and white chocolate fountains, ice cream flavored wines, artisan popcorn, gourmet ice cream and dessert flavored “Sweetinis.”

Guests in attendance were given 18 cupcakes per family to decorate, along with a decorating kit. Kits contained two types of icing, gummy bears, Oreos, graham cracker cookies, sprinkles, Rice Krispie treats and other goodies. The goal was to set a world record, and the cake measured 10 feet high and 12 feet wide, the product of 10,000 cupcakes working together.

The fun isn’t over! If you are living in West Palm Beach or nearby, you can get tickets to the Big Taste Ice Cream Social this Sunday, which is sponsored by Whole Foods. The store will provide 40 different gourmet ice creams, sorbets and gelatos. A topping bar will be available with the expected offerings, such as sauces, nuts and fruits, as well as some unusual choices, including wasabi peas and candied bacon. The all you can eat sweet treat feast starts at noon.

Adults are $25, kids under 12 are $15 and children under five may share with their parents at no charge.

Single and looking to buy a home? Here at All My Sons our Jacksonville movers are happy to help you find the perfect single-person home and can get you moved into it as well. So what should you consider during your search?

    Think About Your Financial Future

Don’t just think about your current financial situation while you’re searching for a home, think about your future finances as well. Will you still be able to pay your mortgage if you were to suddenly lose your job or develop health complications that rendered you unable to work? As a single person, you may not have someone else to fall back on for help during the hard times.

    Consider Your Yard Work

Everyone wants a house, but not everyone wants to handle their own yard work. While you’re looking at homes, take a look at the yard and ask yourself if you would be willing to mow your grass, trim tree limbs, and clean your gutters. If not, you may want to hire someone to do all of that for you.

    Think About Resale Value

One of the best things about being single is being able to pick up and move when the mood strikes. Make sure you consider the resale value and longevity of your home before you close the deal. You don’t want to be stuck with a home that you can’t quickly sell if you get a job offer in another state.

No matter how many are in your family or how large your new home is, the Jacksonville movers of All My Sons are here to take care of the heavy lifting.
