  • North Carolina also has some great college towns, including Chapel Hill, home to the University of North Carolina; Davidson, home to Davidson College; and Durham, home to Duke University. But college kids aren’t the only demographic drawn to the charm of North Carolina. Retirees looking for a place that is affordable and full of amenities are drawn to the Tar Heel State.

While some people might see hot and humid summers as a downside, for the retirement set, warm weather is ideal. New Bern, Asheville, Waynesville, and Davidson all rank well as places for retirees to call home. Of course, moving to Raleigh offers big city amenities and therefore is an ideal choice for retirees who wish to be close to common amenities and also to places places like doctors and specialists.

For anyone on a fixed budget, living costs in North Carolina can be fairly friendly. Overall, the state is 3.7% cheaper than the national average, and home prices are lower than those in many other states. State income taxes also just dropped from a relatively high range of 6% to 7.75% down to a 5.8% flat tax for 2014.

While it might seem like new healthy crazes are everywhere, there are a few areas still transitioning into health related trends. One of these recent areas to become health focused includes real estate development. Oklahoma City is not an area known for being exceptionally healthy or active, but the real estate trend is spreading here too.

With scary statistics like 1 in 3 Americans diagnosed as obese, and that’s a huge jump in the previous statistic of 1 in 8 adults are diagnosed as obese in 1970. Americans are receiving less and less physical activity is also shortening their lifespans, and one way to combat this is with housing that is more conducive to exercise.

Health components from the right living environments can range from pedestrian infrastructure, physical activity, social engagement, and more. Thinking of moving to Oklahoma City and want a place that is conducive to a healthy lifestyle, then you are in luck. As health focused building becomes more prevalent, Oklahoma City will have residential options for prospective residents looking for an active community.

If your move is prompted by work concerns, you might be eligible for a tax deduction. After arranging for Jacksonville Movers to pack up your belongings, take a look at these requirements:

    1. The Move Must Be Work Related

If you have been hired by a new company in another state or you have been promoted to a new office, the move that is influenced by your job can put you in place to qualify for the moving expenses tax deduction.

    2. The Distance Requirement

In order to qualify for the tax deduction, you need to compare the distance between your old home and job with that between your old home and new job. To fulfill this requirement, the distance must be at least 50 miles further than the original distance. For example, if you lived 30 miles away from work in your first home, then the new job must be at least 80 miles away from the old home.

    3. The Time Requirement

There are two parts to this requirement. The first one is that the moving expenses are generated during the first year of starting the new job. The second part of this requirement is that you work full-time for at least 39 weeks of that year. This is different for those who are self-employed; an entrepreneur has 24 months and must work full-time at least 78 weeks in that amount of time.

If you think that you might qualify for this tax break, talk to a tax professional. For your other moving questions, visit with your Jacksonville Movers to get answers.

A new dining option is has come to the South Main area of Downtown Memphis, according to reports in the local business journal. The neighborhood restaurant, known as Café Pontotoc, which is owned by Milton and Cherie Lamb, now serves wine, local beer and small plates at 314 S. Main St. from 4 p.m. to close Tuesday through Saturday, according to The Daily News. The owners will add brunch later this year with no set date at this time.

The South Main area is one that holds a lot of history here in Memphis. After a booming heyday, the area fell into abandonment and was shunned by many. That neglect is what eventually allowed the region’s rebirth. The architecture remains historic as no developers sought to modernize the area, and artists and creative types soon became attracted to the unique vibe of the area. The movie and film community recognized South Main’s gritty time capsule of architecture and began using it as a backdrop for many films. In 1989 the indie film Mystery Train was filmed in South Main, and other movies to follow include: The Firm, Walk the Line, Great Balls of fire, Elizabethtown, Hustle & Flow, and others.

Looking to move to Memphis? South Main is a well-known residential area as well. Today there are more than 2,500 people living in South Main, each of who are drawn to the neighborhood’s charm, walkability and proximity to all of Downtown’s amenities, and unique sense of belonging that many areas nationwide seem to lack. South Main has kept true to its origins by being a neighborhood built on the backs of local entrepreneurs and is the home of Emerge Memphis, Memphis’ start-up incubator for businesses.

Wallace Stevens is a Pulitzer Prize winning poet who died in 1955 and lived most of his days out in Hartford, in a home on Westerly Terrace. The home of the famous poet is now for sale, and a small group of devoted investors have signed a purchase agreement with the hopes of turning the home into a Museum dedicated to Stevens’ life and work.

The group includes Alison Johnson, the author of Stevens biography, and Stevens’ grandson, who still owns some of the original furniture from his grandfathers famous home.

The museum will give people a glimpse into how Stevens lived out his day to day life, which was quite reserved from the public eye. The investors hope that people will appreciate Stevens not only as a poet, but as a man after visiting the museum.

The Hartford Friends of Wallace Stevens, an organization devoted to Stevens and his work, hopes to see these investors plans become final. The organization fears that if the house falls into someone else’s hands, then they will have no care of preserving the homes legacy, or the poet’s legacy.

The museum would be sensitive to the surrounding area, only operating a couple afternoons a week, for only a range of months like May to October. They hope to have as little impact to the residential lives of the neighbors to the home.

The house is listed at $489,900 and the investment group plans on receiving a decision by mid-August. The investment group hopes to get moving on the project as quickly as possible, because there is a lot of work to get done on the house itself in order to get the museum ready for the public.

Despite many residents vocalizing their displeasure with the idea, the Boise Planning and Zoning Commission approved plans for new apartments in Northwest Boise. In May the commission denied the initial plans for the apartments due to the initial size of the apartments. The first plans had the apartments being four-stories tall, which worried neighbors as they feared that people would be able to see into their yards and homes due to the apartments proximity to the neighborhood. Neighbors also feared that there would be a spike in traffic due to the amount of people that would move into the area.

The new and approved plans have scaled back the original designs. The 312 apartments will be two-stories at the exterior and three to four stories within the center of the development. They also scaled back the amount of commercial space from 170,000 square feet to just 70,000 square feet.

Neighbors are still upset about the plan, complaining about the traffic issue still, also saying that the apartments do not fit the character of the neighborhood. They also feel that the apartments will bring the value of their homes down.

The commission approved, although they did not seem to be thrilled about it. They felt that the new designs addressed the initial issues and merited approval. The plans also only passed by a margin of 4-2, and many people are calling for the commission to appeal the plans. The plans will go before city council for final approval soon. Hawkins and Bach, the developers on the project, hope to get this project moving by the end of the year and have them completed within two years.

The housing market in North Carolina has been growing and improving over the last year and the amount of home foreclosures is further proof of that. The foreclosure inventory for May of 2014 was down .8 percent from May of 2013. Nationwide, the percentage of home in the process of foreclosure is 1.7 percent, but North Carolina’s foreclosure inventory is only .9 percent, dropping well below the average.

This year North Carolina had completed just over 24,000 foreclosures by May. The United States had 47,000 foreclosure in the month of May alone. This is still well above the foreclosure rate prior to the recession, so even though our national housing market is recovering, we still have a very long way to go.

The top five states in for foreclosures are Florida, Michigan, Texas, California, and Georgia. North Carolina’s housing market is moving in the right direction, and our home prices, mortgage rates, and foreclosure rates all play a significant role in our successful housing recovery.

As the housing market in our state continues to improve, the more people will begin to look for new homes, or move from renting to owning. If you are looking to capitalize on the improving housing market by moving into a new home, then call your local moving company and let us get you there. All My Sons can provide you with a stress-free move, and we will get you settled into your new home as quickly as possible.

Houses in the Denver metro area average out at about $253,300, and that number will continue to rise, according to Zillow’s May 2014 real estate market report, which was recently released. The median home value of $253,300 rose 8.3 percent in May of this year from a year earlier, with no change from April 2014 to May 2014. Nationally, median value was at $172,300 and increased 5.4 percent in May compared to May 2013, with a modest 0.1 percent increased from April.

Inventory of all for-sale homes in the Denver metro area fell 8.7 percent compared to last year, but rose 5.7 percent month-over-month in May, with middle-tier homes facing the largest decrease in inventory, down 4.5 percent over the past year. While the inventory is rising, it isn’t causing much budge in pricing because the demand is very high throughout Colorado and extremely so in Denver and the surrounding suburbs.

Moving to Denver is becoming increasingly expensive. Top-tier home prices in Denver increased 5.5 percent, and rental rates are also climbing. Rents in Denver also continue to climb, up by 6.9 percent year-over-year to an average of $1,676. Nationally, rents were up 2.3 percent year-over-year to an average of $1,310.

Construction will soon begin on a new single-family home in the Central Business District of Downtown Cincinnati. The home is the first residential home to be built in the area in quite some time. Quest Real Estate LLC is building the home to gauge the interest in homes in the area.

The three-story house will be built on Fourth Street Historic District and will cost around $1 million. The exterior of the home will look the same as the rest of the area, keep it in sync with the district, but the inside of the house will feature an open floor plan and large windows, to make it feel more like a home. There will also be a garage, which is a big feature for the home, because the garage will allow the drive to turn around in it so the driver never has to back out onto the busy street.

A home like this does not exist anywhere else in the area, and will resemble many downtown Chicago homes. Currently most of the Downtown living is in the Over-the-Rhine area of the city, so this home offers many advantages to business executives and athletes because of its proximity to the business district and stadiums.

Though they could have pre-sold the home before starting the process, the developers are confident that the home will be sold, and sold quickly.

If you are looking to move into downtown Cincinnati, let All My Sons provide you with a stress free move.
